About Us

Thank you for supporting our small business.

Our journey into cloth nappies began in May 2019 when we attended the baby show, walked past a stall selling cloth nappies and said “shall we find out some more information?”. All of a sudden we’d bought a starter pack and we were going to be cloth bum parents. It wasn’t so much a decision not to use disposables, rather we didn’t even consider them.

Our little boy arrived a little earlier than expected in July 2019 and A LOT smaller than expected, our lovely nappies were too big and wouldn’t fit until he was nearly 9 months old. Luckily we managed to get some very cute newborn nappies quickly and began our cloth journey. And we’ve never looked back.

As cloth bum parents, we were always willing to try lots of different brands, we’d find parts of different nappies suited our needs and often wished for something that combined all the parts we loved. We took the opportunity to design a nappy that encompassed all the best bits and Brainy Bums was born.

We built our brand around our desire to build a better, more sustainable future for our son and future generations. Our decision to use cloth nappies has taken us on a exciting journey into the world of becoming environmentally conscious and responsible. It’s amazing how one small change can lead you to evaluate other areas of waste.

We hope you’ll enjoy your journey into the cloth bum world as much as we have. Here’s to raising future eco-conscious generations and teaching them the importance of preserving our beautiful planet.

Thank you for supporting our small business.

Our ethics.

We firmly believe that our ethics extend beyond reducing landfill caused from disposable nappies, we want them to extend to all areas of our business.

When sourcing a way to manufacture our nappies, we sought to ensure that not only was the quality of workmanship second to none, but, that this didn’t come at the expense of ethical manufacturing. We have gone to great lengths to ensure that the manufacturer provides their members of staff a decent living wage, has a robust supply chain in place (trading with ethical partners) and provides their staff with annual leave as we would expect.

Our products use Organic Cotton, responsibly sourced, with no bleaching. This means the cotton in our nappies may initially be a creamy colour but as you wash them, they will naturally lighten. The cotton may take a few washes to reach full absorbency.

Our Packaging.

Our nappies come with no swing tags as this is another element of “waste” be it recyclable or not.

Our parcels are sent in a mix of compostable bags or FSC cardboard (depending on the size of your order). Our bags are made from cornstarch which means they can be put in your food waste caddy, garden waste bin or home composter if you have one. Cardboard can be reused multiple times before sent for recycling. The tape used to seal our boxes is also paper based and can be recycled alongside your box.

You may find a small free gift in your orders, we have thought carefully about the suppliers we have used. Pukka teabags are importantly plastic free (and also support 1% for the planet) as well as offering vegan options. Tony Chocolonely is a fair trade chocolate manufacturer who’s aim is to stop slavery in the chocolate industry.

1% for the planet

Finally, we feel it’s really important that we give back to the planet. We are proud to announce from 1st April 2021, we are be members of 1% for the planet. We will donate 1% of our turnover each year to this cause which will support incentives to heal our planet and directly support charities who support communities disproportionately affected by climate change. This donation is in addition to any we make through our charity prints.
